Welcome on the website of the "Artisans et artisanes de ceinture fléchée du Québec".
Histoire de la ceinture fléchée
In this section, you can learn more about the history of the arrow sash. It is a kind of belt made by finger weaving. Still present in the Quebec society, this belt was used by voyageurs in the 19th century to tie jackets around their waist to prevent the cold from creeping in. It also supported their back when they were strained. It was a both practical and fashionable accessory, worn by both the bourgeois and the habitant classes. The Assomption sash was highly valued by Métis voyageurs and traders for its attractive appearance and for its usefulness. Now, it is not only used as a belt, but also as scarf, page keeper and symbolic to the French Canadian roots.
